Biography
Susan George was born in Akron, Ohio, in 1934 and died in 2026. She worked as a political scientist, social scientist, activist, and writer focused on global social justice, poverty in the Third World, underdevelopment, and debt. George served as president of the Transnational Institute, a think-tank in Amsterdam, and was a critic of International Monetary Fund and World Bank policies, as well as the structural reform policies known as the Washington Consensus. Though born in the United States, she lived in France and held dual citizenship from 1994 onward.
