Biography

Susanne Katherina Langer was born in Manhattan in 1895 and worked as a philosopher, literary scholar, and writer. She developed theories on how art influences the mind and published Philosophy in a New Key in 1942, followed by Feeling and Form: A Theory of Art in 1953. In 1960 she was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She died in 1985.
