Ted Schroeder was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1921 and died in 2006. An American tennis player, he won Wimbledon and the U.S. National championships. He was ranked the No. 1 American amateur player in 1942, No. 2 for four consecutive years from 1946 to 1949, and achieved World No. 1 amateur ranking in 1949 according to Pierre Gillou. He developed as a tennis player in Southern California under Perry T. Jones.
