Biography

Thomas Midgley was born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, in 1889 and worked as a chemist, inventor, and engineer. He developed leaded gasoline and early chlorofluorocarbons, known in the United States as Freon, both of which were later banned due to harmful effects on human health and the environment. Over his career he received more than 100 patents. He died in 1944.
