Thomas Watson Jr. was born in Dayton, Ohio on January 14, 1914, and died on December 31, 1993. He worked as an aircraft pilot, diplomat, entrepreneur, politician, and businessperson. He served as IBM president from 1952 to 1971, national president of the Boy Scouts of America from 1964 to 1968, and United States Ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1979 to 1981. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.
