Biography

Tom Ewell was born in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1909 and worked as a film, stage, and television actor and producer. He played Richard Sherman in the Broadway production of The Seven Year Itch from 1952 to 1954, a role for which he received a Tony Award, and reprised the character in the 1955 film adaptation, winning a Golden Globe for that performance. Though he favored stage acting, he appeared in light comedies during the 1950s, including The Girl Can't Help It in 1956 and the 1962 film version of the musical State Fair, along with other films released between the early 1960s and 1980s. He died in 1994.
