Tom Heinsohn was born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1934 and worked as a professional basketball player, coach, and sports commentator. He played for the Boston Celtics from 1956 to 1965 and coached the team from 1969 to 1978. For more than 30 years he served as color commentator for the Celtics' local broadcasts with play-by-play commentator Mike Gorman. He was associated with the Celtics across six decades in these roles and earned the nickname "Mr. Celtic" during his lifetime.
