V. C. Andrews was a novelist born in Portsmouth, Virginia in 1923. Her 1979 novel Flowers in the Attic led to two film adaptations and four sequels. Though her publisher did not classify her novels as Young Adult, they found an audience among teenagers. After her death in 1986, a ghostwriter continued publishing books under her name.
