Biography

William Friedkin was born in Chicago in 1935 and worked as a director, producer, and screenwriter. He began his career making documentaries in the early 1960s before directing The French Connection in 1971, a crime thriller that won five Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. He also directed The Exorcist in 1973, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. Friedkin died in 2023.
