Biography

William Rufus Day was born in Ravenna, Ohio in 1849 and worked as a lawyer, judge, diplomat, and politician. He served as United States Secretary of State under President William McKinley, and later as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1903 to 1922. Before his Supreme Court appointment, he also served as a circuit judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States Circuit Courts for the Sixth Circuit. He died in 1923.
