The Battle

History & Significance

After Edward Balliol's restoration attempt in Scotland and the Battle of Dupplin Moor, Scottish border forces loyal to David II raided systematically into Northumberland and Cumberland in 1332-35. Towns and monasteries were burned and ransoms extracted. The raids continued the pattern of Scottish border warfare and tested the English March defences during a period when Edward III was focused on internal politics.
