The UK's Battlefield Heritage

The United Kingdom has been shaped by warfare across two thousand years. From the Roman legions landing on the Kent coast in 43 AD to the highland charge at Culloden in 1746, the landscape carries the memory of every major conflict — in the names of fields, the earthworks that remain, and the registered battlefield sites protected today.

This directory brings together over 8,000 battles and skirmishes. Each battlefield record includes the combatants, the outcome, the historical significance, and where known, the precise location. Many are linked to scheduled monuments or recorded in the National Register of Historic Battlefields.

Use the filters below to search by country, county and era, or browse by type of engagement. Individual battlefield pages include full accounts, nearby heritage sites, and links to Aubrey's location research tools for anyone researching an area in depth.
