The Battle

History & Significance

In his second and final season Veranius extended operations northward to raid Ordovician territory in mid and north Wales. The raids were intended to weaken the Ordovices sufficiently for his successor to complete the conquest; instead Veranius died, and Suetonius Paulinus was tasked with finishing the job — which led eventually to the assault on Anglesey and the Boudiccan catastrophe.

Forces Involved

Mixed legionary vexillation and auxiliary forces advancing from the upper Severn
