The Battle

History & Significance

Henry Percy was released from imprisonment in 1469 by Edward IV and restored to the earldom of Northumberland, reversing the post-Towton attainder. Edward hoped Percy's restoration would stabilise the north but the Percy family's lingering Lancastrian sympathies and their rivalry with the Nevilles continued to be a fault line in Yorkist politics.
