The Battle

History & Significance

After Killiecrankie, Jacobite support spread through the Deeside and Donside glens. Braemar Castle, a government garrison point in the Cairngorm approaches, was seized by Farquharson and Gordon clansmen supporting Viscount Dundee cause. The castle changed hands in the confused period of the 1689 rising and was later burned by the Farquharsons to prevent government use.
