History & Significance

After the main Battle of the Boyne, the French general Lauzun's cavalry successfully covered the Jacobite retreat through Duleek toward Dublin, fighting off Williamite pursuit. The successful rearguard action prevented the Jacobite defeat becoming a total rout and allowed Sarsfield and the bulk of the army to retreat in order.
