The Battle

History & Significance

The Mackenzies began their expansion from their Eilean Donan base in the late thirteenth century, gradually extending their authority eastward into the Black Isle and westward into Kintail. Eilean Donan was granted to Colin FitzKenneth around 1266 and became the ancestral seat from which Mackenzie power grew over the following four centuries to become one of the most powerful Highland clans.
