The Battle

History & Significance

After the main battle at Sheriffmuir, both sides' cavalry — whichever wings had won — continued fighting in the surrounding area. The Jacobite right wing that had routed Argyll's left pursued the fleeing government troops considerable distances. These post-battle skirmishes are sometimes recorded separately in accounts of the '15 rising.
