Owain Glyndwr is proclaimed Prince of Wales by his supporters at his estate on 16 September 1400. He immediately leads a raid on the hated English borough of Ruthin, controlled by his personal enemy Reginald Grey, burning the town and beginning the great Welsh revolt. The act is both symbolic and strategic, targeting English colonial settlement.
