The Battle

History & Significance

Coity Castle in Glamorgan was besieged by Owain Glyndwr s forces in 1404. The constable Sir Lawrence Berkerolles held out against the Welsh rebels. An English relief force was organized and fought its way through Welsh territory to raise the siege, one of the few successful relief operations of the Glyndwr revolt. The relief of Coity demonstrated that isolated English garrisons could be sustained when relief forces were committed.
