History & Significance

Pardoned a second time, Sir Ralph Percy defected once more to the Lancastrians in 1463 and held Bamburgh until his death at the Battle of Hedgeley Moor in 1464. His repeated treachery exasperated the Yorkist government and illustrated how personal loyalty to the house of Lancaster persisted among northern Percy retainers.
