History & Significance

Henry V's immortal victory against odds of perhaps 3:1 or higher. The muddy field, the French cavalry floundering between woods and stakes, the English archers stepping forward to fire at point-blank range — all became the defining image of English medieval warfare. Three dukes, six counts, ninety lords and perhaps 6,000 French soldiers died. Henry V became heir to France. Shakespeare's "St Crispin's Day" speech made Agincourt England's greatest military myth.

Casualties & Losses

c.6,000+ French killed; ~112 English killed
