The Battle

History & Significance

The Mackenzies extended their authority westward to the Applecross peninsula in the early fifteenth century, acquiring the coastal territory that extended their claim to the whole of Wester Ross between the Kyle of Lochalsh in the south and Loch Torridon in the north. Applecross gave Mackenzie access to the Applecross fishing grounds and the Inner Sound sea passage and was a significant westward extension of their territorial base.
