History & Significance

In December 1282 Llywelyn ap Gruffudd moves south with a small escort toward Builth, apparently to meet Welsh lords of mid-Wales. He is ambushed near the Irfon Bridge by English forces under John Giffard and Roger Mortimer. The fighting around the Builth area ends with Llywelyn killed, though not immediately identified by his killers.
