The Battle

History & Significance

Following John of Islay MacDonald killing of Ranald MacRuari in 1343, MacDonald forces moved to occupy the Garmoran territories including Moidart, Knoydart and Morar. The incorporation of Garmoran into the MacDonald sphere was achieved partly by force and partly by marriage, as John had married Amy MacRuari. This acquisition more than doubled MacDonald territory and laid the essential groundwork for the Lordship of the Isles.
