The Battle

History & Significance

Jasper Tudor Earl of Pembroke and his nephew Henry Tudor fled to Brittany after Tewkesbury, where they were kept under loose custody by Duke Francis II. Edward IV repeatedly demanded their extradition. The Breton exile preserved the Tudor dynasty and allowed Henry to mature as a political and military figure. When Francis nearly surrendered them in 1483 they escaped into France.
