History & Significance

The Deeside and Braemar area — already the location of Mar's 1715 standard-raising — was again a major Jacobite muster point in 1745. The Farquharson clan, staunchly Jacobite, raised their men from Deeside for Prince Charles. Gordon adherents in the upper Don and Dee valleys were mobilised. These Deeside musters produced a significant contingent for the Jacobite army and provided the base for Gordon of Glenbuchat's later operations. The Deeside area remained Jacobite-controlled until after Culloden, when Cumberland's columns swept through.

Forces Involved

Farquharson of Monaltrie, Gordon Jacobite adherents: c.300-500 men
