History & Significance

The Earl of Warwick — "the Kingmaker" — turned against Edward IV and engineered this defeat of the royal forces. The Earls of Pembroke and Devon were captured and executed. Edward IV himself was briefly captured by Warwick. The battle showed that Warwick was willing to make war on the king he had helped create.
