History & Significance

Henry Holland Duke of Exeter attempted to use the royal fleet against Warwick's Calais squadron in the Channel in 1460 but was outmanoeuvred. Several royal ships deserted to Warwick. The disintegration of the royal fleet contributed to the impossibility of preventing Warwick's successful landing in June 1460.
