History & Significance

Wallace's forces had been investing Dundee Castle since the summer of 1297. After the victory at Stirling Bridge eliminated the English field army, isolated garrisons across Scotland began to surrender. Dundee's garrison capitulated in the immediate aftermath of Stirling Bridge. Wallace systematically mopped up the remaining English strongpoints as he was recognised as Guardian of Scotland.
