The Battle

History & Significance

As the Yorkist army under Warwick and March advanced on the Lancastrian encampment at Northampton in July 1460, their march through the Daventry area involved minor clashes with Lancastrian pickets and local forces. The subsequent Battle of Northampton was a decisive Yorkist victory, capturing Henry VI. The Northamptonshire road network — Watling Street and the Roman road network — was critical to military movement throughout the Wars of the Roses.
