History & Significance

The rebel army crossed the River Wharfe at Tadcaster on its southward march from the landing site, taking the most direct route toward the Trent crossing at Newark. Speed was essential as Henry VII was assembling a large army in the Midlands. The rebels did not stop to consolidate Yorkshire.
