History & Significance

The MacRuaris had once been equals of the MacDonalds in the west but were absorbed into the Lordship of the Isles by the mid fourteenth century. Pockets of resistance continued into the reign of John I, Lord of the Isles. This skirmish on Mull consolidated MacDonald authority over the area between Mull and Ardnamurchan.
