The Battle

History & Significance

Robert Duke of Albany as Governor of Scotland mounted a military expedition toward the western Highlands and Isles in 1405 in an attempt to curb the growing power of Donald Lord of the Isles. The expedition achieved limited results as Highland terrain and MacDonald sea power made effective military action difficult for a Lowland Scottish army. Albany had to rely on political means rather than outright conquest.
