The Battle

History & Significance

Dunstanburgh's dramatic cliff-top site made it one of the most militarily significant castles in the 1462–64 northern campaign. It changed hands twice — surrendering, then rebelling, then surrendering again. The garrisons were commanded by men who switched sides — Ralph Percy being the most notorious, dying at Hedgeley Moor having changed allegiance multiple times.
