The Battle

History & Significance

Prince Charles besieged Stirling Castle after Falkirk Muir but the French artillery commander Mirabelle de Gordon proved incompetent. The trenches were wrongly sited and the guns useless against the castle. The failed siege wasted precious weeks and supplies before Culloden. A classic example of a siege that should have succeeded.
