History & Significance

Bruce was ambushed by the MacDougalls in a narrow pass near Tyndrum. He barely escaped — the Brooch of Lorn, ripped from his cloak during the fighting, became the MacDougall clan treasure. Bruce and his followers fled to Rathlin Island. The "Brooch of Lorn" is still in the MacDougall family.
