History & Significance

At Ludford Bridge outside Ludlow the Yorkist army disintegrated when Andrew Trollope led the Calais garrison veterans across to the Lancastrian side, leaving York, Salisbury and Warwick without a seasoned core. The leaders fled overnight — York to Ireland, Warwick and March to Calais — abandoning their troops.
