The Battle

History & Significance

The MacDougall lords of Lorn enforced naval supremacy over the Firth of Lorn in the 1260s-1270s following the Treaty of Perth, positioning themselves as the dominant power in western Argyll in the new Scottish-controlled Hebrides. Their galley fleet extracted tolls from merchant vessels and exercised de facto control over the sea passage between Argyll and Mull.
