The Battle

History & Significance

Anti-Jewish riots broke out in London in 1263 and 1264 as baronial agitation intensified. The Londoners, allied with de Montfort, attacked Jews and foreigners and temporarily closed the city gates against possible royalist entry. Violence at the gates and in the city streets accompanied the political crisis as the Barons War began.
