The Battle

History & Significance

Following the Norwegian defeat at Largs and Haakon death at Kirkwall, the Norwegian garrison at Brodick Castle on Arran surrendered to Scottish forces. Arran was one of the first islands formally reclaimed by Scotland after Largs and its recovery set the precedent for the Treaty of Perth negotiations. Brodick surrender marked the practical end of Norwegian authority in the Firth of Clyde.
