After his army dissolved Buckingham took refuge with a former servant Ralph Banastre at Weobley in Herefordshire. Banastre betrayed him for the reward Richard III had offered. Buckingham was taken to Salisbury and executed without trial on 2 November 1483 — Richard refused to see him despite Buckingham's request for a personal meeting.
