History & Significance

The Corieltavi of the east Midlands and Lincolnshire appear to have been subjugated relatively quietly, becoming an early example of successful Roman civilian administration. Their multiple mint sites (they were one of the most prolific coin-producing tribes in pre-Roman Britain) were replaced by the Roman monetary economy. The civitas capital at Ratae became a prosperous town.
