History & Significance

Cheshire was intensely loyal to the house of Lancaster through its connection to the Duchy of Lancaster estates and the royal household. After the defeat at Blore Heath the Cheshire gentry nevertheless continued to provide the core of the Lancastrian midlands army and contributed to the royal force that confronted York at Ludford Bridge.
