History & Significance

John de la Pole Earl of Lincoln, Richard III's named heir and the most credible Yorkist claimant after the princes disappeared, escaped from Henry VII's court to Burgundy and then crossed to Ireland to lead the Simnel rebellion. Francis Lovell also joined in Ireland. Lincoln's presence gave the rebellion genuine Plantagenet legitimacy.
