The Battle

History & Significance

During Edward I's 1300 Scottish campaign — the same summer as the siege of Caerlaverock — English forces moved through Glasgow and the Clyde valley asserting authority over the diocese. Bishop Wishart, who had been released and was again suspected of supporting resistance, was placed under supervision. The Glasgow operations were part of a broader effort to break ecclesiastical support for the resistance and install loyal English administrators in the Scottish church.
