History & Significance

After the Battle of Inverurie and the Herschip of Buchan, Bruce moved on Aberdeen. The English garrison and Comyn supporters in the town could not resist. Aberdeen's capture gave Bruce control of north-east Scotland's most important port and trading city — vital for receiving supplies and maintaining communication with his allies. The city would remain loyal to Bruce for the rest of the war.
