The Battle

History & Significance

Lord Audley's Lancastrian cavalry charged the Yorkist archers multiple times and were destroyed each time. Audley himself was killed. Salisbury used a feigned retreat to lure the cavalry into a killing ground. One of the opening battles of the Wars of the Roses. The church at Mucklestone still has a grave pit of the fallen.
