The Battle

History & Significance

Spain sent 300 soldiers to support a Jacobite rising as part of the War of the Quadruple Alliance. They joined a small Highland force and were caught in the glen by General Wightman's troops with artillery. The Spaniards surrendered; the Highlanders melted into the mountains. The five sisters of Kintail overlook the site. The last foreign troops to fight on British soil in a hostile invasion.
