History & Significance

After his final victory over the Lancastrians at Tewkesbury, Edward IV sent commissioners into Wales to survey forfeited Lancastrian estates and restore Yorkist authority. Armed escorts accompanied the commissioners as they moved through mid and west Wales. Several Welsh gentry who had supported Jasper Tudor were required to pay heavy fines for their adherence to the Lancastrian cause.
